Dropped Mr Sheikh at his workplace and off we went to the East Coast beach. I initially planned to reach earlier to catch the sunrise but Mr Sheikh happened to be on morning shift so we gave the sunrise a miss.
Sameer has a presentation coming up in school where he has to talk about his favourite outing. He have chosen to talk about the beach and wants to show the seashells as part of his "show and tell". And that is why we really ended up at the beach on a Sunday morning, to collect seashells!
I brought Sameer for breakfast at my favourite stall in Marine Terrace before walking to the beach. It was a nice, nostalgic walk through the neighbourhood where I partly grew up. While many things around the place have changed, some remain the same as I remember them! A couple of shops are still run by the same shopkeepers and the familiar faces made me kind of excited. Of course no one remembered me. I had to go up to them and mention my dad's famous name to be recognised!!
I know you would find this irrational but I parked the car at the carpark near the block where I used to stay. Just to show Sameer a glimpse of my childhood I guess. We then walked to the beach via the overhead bridge. No prizes for the correct guess but yeah that's the route I used to take to get to the beach every evening. I know I sound like someone who badly misses her childhood. Don't worry, I'm not dying :P
We went to see the turtles at the pond first before going on our hunt for seashells. Naughty turtles played hide and seek with us until we got tired and moved on!
As you can see the seashells are kind of scarce. We covered quite a long stretch of the beach but didn't find anything exciting. Most of the seashells were either too tiny or were crushed and broken! Next time you are at the beach, please remember not to crush seashells! It's mean!
The recent oil spill has not thoroughly cleared and now another one!! This is truly alarming. But at least this oil leak has been timely contained, see the cap on the bottle?
One fish found dead as a result of the cooking oil spill. What a waste, the fish would have looked good on a plate.
The water didn't look that inviting, with it's murky color and the lingering smell of diesel (or whatever fuel they use in ships).
Can't help but notice that lonely figure, probably just broke up with his girlfriend.
I know, years of watching Hindi movies has this kind of effect.
Will I get sued for posting random pictures of strange people?
Ok this is the last one. This guy must have got kicked out of the house for not listening to his wife heheh.
We were beachcombing for seashells for about 2 hours or so before it started raining cats and dogs. Walked back to the car and were headed straight home when I realised I'll be driving past the Geylang Serai market. That is how grocery shopping became part of our little outing, much to Sameer's disappointment. Sorry darling but a woman has to do what she has to do!
Here are the fruits of our labour! I used to collect more impressive ones, I guess along with everything else in the world even the seashells are deteriorating in quality!

LOL @ your comments about the lonely people.
And perhaps when Sameer does his presentation in school, he'll end it with, "...and then we went grocery shopping."
lolz, that would be a funny ending! But i doubt he even bothers to remember a market trip. cant blame him, I used to hate stepping into wet markets myself until recently hehe.
hey the collection turns out quite pretty!
yupp, it's quite pretty. maybe i shud stop comparing these seashells to those i used to collect! :D
